How to fix missing text when importing a job description
Published
If a job description imports incorrectly, check that the page shows one complete role, then compare the extracted title, company, location, and description before analysis. Missing text is a reason to correct the input, not to generate around the gap. Use selected text or manual edits when automatic extraction cannot isolate the job.

Identify what went wrong
Different mistakes need different fixes. An empty description can mean the relevant section has not loaded or the page layout was not recognized. A very long description can mean the extractor included a list of jobs, recommendations, or company information. A wrong location can come from unrelated text near the posting.
Do not use length alone as a quality signal. A short but complete posting may be valid, while several thousand characters of navigation are not. Check the content against the visible job. The purpose of extraction is to preserve the role you intend to assess, not to collect as much text as possible.
Open the complete job detail
On LinkedIn, select the role so its detail pane is visible, or open the individual posting. Check whether the page is a job detail or a sign-in wall. On other boards, use the employer's job-detail page rather than a category or results page.
Give the page time to load and expand the description yourself if the site requires that action. Job Lens does not navigate the site, click application controls, or bypass access restrictions for you. If you cannot read the description in the browser, do not expect extraction to reconstruct it.
Correct the draft deliberately
First retry extraction after the complete detail is visible. If the same information is still missing, use a narrower input rather than repeatedly generating a bad result.
The selected-text fallback is useful when you can highlight the actual description. Select the responsibilities and requirements, not the whole page. Review the resulting fields and manually supply anything still missing. Selected text is not an authority for title or company unless those details genuinely appear in the selection.
- Confirm the source job and its employer.
- Retry only after fixing an obvious loading or page-selection issue.
- Choose selected text if you can isolate the actual description.
- Correct title, company, and location from the posting.
- Read the final draft before sending it for analysis.
Check for contamination, not just missing fields
Scan for follower counts, recruiter biographies, other job titles, cookie notices, and promotional sections. Those details can distract from the role's actual responsibilities. Check the location for a country or city relevant to the job rather than a company headquarters mentioned elsewhere.
Description headings such as Responsibilities can be useful when they organize genuine job content. Raw markup such as an HTML paragraph tag is different: it is formatting syntax, not useful job text. The target is readable plain text containing the posting's meaning, not an arbitrary ban on every heading.
Recognize pages that should not be extracted
Chrome settings pages, the Chrome Web Store, and other protected browser pages are not normal job pages. Job Lens also does not support reading PDF job pages in this workflow. Use a readable supported job page or manually prepare from the source instead of trying to bypass browser restrictions.
If a normal posting still fails, report the site and the diagnostic code when available. Do not send passwords, connection tokens, or private career documents. A redacted screenshot of the affected fields can help explain the problem without sharing the whole application.
Common questions
Should I analyze a draft with the wrong company or description?
No. Correct the job identity and content first. Analysis and preparation depend on the input, so a polished output can still be about the wrong role.
Will changing tabs automatically extract a new job?
No. Job Lens preserves the current panel state. Invoke it on the new posting and check its source before starting another workflow.
